Having a royal breakfast is recommended by dietitians, and it seems like the advice has caught on. With the rise of brunch as a popular habit in recent years, more and more people are looking for breakfast options through social media to enjoy a good morning meal, ideally combining it with a trip to a European city.
Numbers don’t lie
The numbers clearly show that most people don’t skip the first meal of the day. With 49.2 billion views for the hashtag “breakfast” and 43 million for “European food” on TikTok, loveholidays compiled a list of the best European cities for breakfast.
Ranking takes into account the number of bakeries, breakfast restaurants, cafes, and social media posts.
The top three on the list are London, Rome, and Paris. The capital of Greece, Athens, occupies the 17th place among the top 20 European destinations for breakfast.
London at the top
London ranks first as the best place in Europe for breakfast. With 3,589 breakfast cafes, 1,078 cafes, and 226 bakeries, visitors to the capital have many choices when it comes to their morning meal. On average, 27,300 people search for “breakfast in London” every month.
Rome ranks second, with 404 cafes for those wanting to taste authentic Italian coffee – among all cities in the ranking, you will find the cheapest coffee prices in Rome, averaging 1.45 euros.
Paris, famous for its pastries and baguettes, ranks third. The French capital has the highest number of bakeries, with 274 to try along with 1,967 breakfast cafes and 230 cafes. Choices are posted on Instagram, as over 191,000 people share their experience of a Parisian breakfast.
With breakfast being one of the most important meals of the day, Athens seems to know how to serve it well, ranking high in the European list, specifically landing at the 17th spot!
