Nikki Haley on Trump: Seeking to Secure Nomination through Coercion

Donald Trump’s only remaining challenger in the process, Nikki Haley, turned against him on Sunday (1/28). She stated that he is “trying to secure the nomination of the Republicans in order to be the party’s candidate in the November presidential elections by ‘intimidating’ the faction.” She criticized party leaders for wanting to give it to him too early.

Despite her defeats in the Iowa and New Hampshire votes, and despite Donald Trump’s persistence supported by the party’s leaders, the candidate decided to continue her efforts.

“He cannot impose his candidacy as the Republican candidate in the elections of November,” said Ms. Haley yesterday in the “Meet the Press” show on NBC. “You can’t do that after just two states out of the fifty that will vote,” added the former U.S. ambassador to the UN – a position that is equivalent to a minister in the American government, to which she was appointed by Donald Trump – and former governor of South Carolina.

Nikki Haley criticized the party’s National Committee (RNC), which organizes the internal votes, for showing its support for the former U.S. president, the undisputed favorite, too early after his two initial victories.

After the results in New Hampshire were announced last Tuesday, the party’s chairwoman, Ronna McDaniel, said the voters’ choice is “very clear.” “We must rally around the person who will be our candidate, and that will be Donald Trump,” she added.
