καθώς ο κάμπος και οι γειτονικές περιοχές έχουν υποστεί σοβαρές υλικές ζημιές. Ταυτόχρονα, έχει προκληθεί μεγάλη οικολογική καταστροφή, που επηρεάζει σημαντικά τη γεωργική παραγωγή της περιοχής.
Ο θεσσαλικός κάμπος αποτελεί σημαντικό τμήμα της ελληνικής οικονομίας, καθώς συνεισφέρει όλο και περισσότερο στον εθνικό ακαθάριστο εγχώριο προϊόν (ΑΕΠ). Η αγροτική παραγωγή, μαζί με τη δασοκομία και την αλιεία, συμβάλλει στη δημιουργία προστιθέμενης αξίας περίπου 7,13 δισ. ευρώ, που αντιπροσωπεύει το 3,9% του ΑΕΠ, υψηλότερο από τον ευρωπαϊκό μέσο όρο (1,6%).
Η καταστροφική κακοκαιρία έχει προκαλέσει αλυσιδωτές επιπτώσεις σε όλο τον οικονομικό και κοινωνικό τομέα, με σημαντικές επιπτώσεις στο περιβάλλον. Οι παραγωγοί εκτιμούν ότι η αποκατάσταση των καλλιεργήσιμων εκτάσεων θα απαιτήσει σημαντικό χρονικό διάστημα και οι ζημιές μπορεί να ανέλθουν στα 2-3 δισ. ευρώ.
Οι παραγωγοί και οι κάτοικοι της περιοχής ζητούν άμεση οικονομική ενίσχυση από την κυβέρνηση, καθώς η φτώχεια απειλεί την περιφέρεια. Ο αγροτικός κλάδος είναι σημαντικός τροφοδότης και πολλών άλλων επαγγελμάτων, και η απουσία εισοδήματος για τους παραγωγούς θα έχει επιπτώσεις σε όλη την περιοχή.
